Tourism is defined as “travel ling to a destination for pleasure” Which means personal pleasure rather than business. The business of tourism is providing information, accommodations, transportation and other services. Sri Lanka is lucky to be such a diverse island with so much to offer. Tourists can come here for a variety of reasons and many different pleasures. You have more world heritage sites on this small island than anywhere else in the world. Many different beaches, some for pleasure of just laying on the beach and swimming in the sea with almost certain endless days of sunshine. Others beaches for adventure sports like surfing sky surfing. Easy to go whale and dolphin watching with almost certain sighting and the right time of year. You have the hill country, jungles, rain forests. There is accommodation of every standard and price level so anyone can enjoy their time here at a price from budget to super luxury you have it all. Like wise in the offer of food. The number of national parks for such a small Island is amazing. There is so much choice for different kinds of tourists, tours of every kind be it culture or nature. The is no simple definition as there are so many different kinds of attractions for tourists. A big choice making it a good destination for so many different reasons. When I first came here it was for two weeks by the beach 20 years ago. Sri Lanka has so much more to offer now, the infrastructure put in place catering for tourists makes it a very attractive destination. You don’t realize how well Historical sites are maintained but still give access to tourists to see them up close. Also very important, its easy to get a tourist visa and easy to extend if you want to. I think for me as a former tourist it was the variety Sri Lanka offers making it a place people can keep coming back and see a different side of Sri Lanka every trip, the ease of getting here and travel ling around
